About the Text to Speech tool

This text to speech tool runs entirely in your browser using the built-in Web Speech API. Type any text, choose one of the system voices, fine-tune the rate, pitch and volume, then press Speak to hear it read aloud. Nothing is uploaded to a server — synthesis happens locally on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool upload my text? No. All synthesis happens locally in your browser. Your text never leaves your device.

Why does the voice list look different on my other device? Voices are provided by your operating system and browser, so the available voices vary. Chrome on Windows, macOS and Linux each ship different voice sets.

The Speak button doesn't do anything — why? Some browsers require a user interaction before speech synthesis can start. Click anywhere on the page first, then try Speak again. Also check that your system volume is up.

Can I read very long texts? Yes, but extremely long texts may be truncated by some browsers. For best results, split very long documents into smaller chunks.
